“Praise the name of God forever and ever, for He has all wisdom and power.
He controls the course of world events; He removes kings and sets up other kings.
He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.
He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though He is surrounded by light.” ~ Daniel 2: 20 – 22 (NLT)
I read this in the Discover God Study Bible today:
“Since the Creation, a drama has been played out on the stage of world history. The script was written beforehand, but the drama’s protagonist (God) and antagonist (Satan) continue to play out every scene. At stake is world dominion, now and for eternity. At present, Satan is allowed to empower earthly rulers to contest the purposes of God (1 John 5:19). But the prophecies of Daniel reveal clearly that all human kingdoms are only temporary and that God is sovereignly working through the events of world history to confound the efforts of His enemies, whether natural or supernatural. The kingdoms of this world will one day cease to exist, and God’s kingdom will be established forever (Daniel 2: 44; 4:17; 7:27). Amid the clash of earthly kingdoms, it is comforting to know that every moment brings us closer to the day when God’s kingdom will be established forever.”
